The foundation was established on 25 February 2016 by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism with the Campania Region and the Municipality of San Tammaro to promote the knowledge, protection, recovery, and enhancement of the Carditello Royal Site and the annexed areas, in the implementation of the Enhancement Agreement signed by the parties on the 3 August 2015.

The monumental complex was acquired by the State on 8 January 2014 and it is part of a broader project to promote tourist itineraries integrated with the Bourbon residences of the territory.
